“Farm for gold” – not something you generally want to do. It’s boring, right? Well, it doesn’t have to be. Most people think of farming for gold as a mindless, boring grind. Repetitive tasks, killing the same mob over and over, running a circuit for a gathering profession, etc. The bottom line is the same: you burn out because you’re sick and tired of the same, dull thing. But there are ways to stave off that feeling.

The obvious of course is to mix up what you’re doing. Don’t just grind the same thing day in and day out. Get a rotation going of a few different things. You can either change at some time interval (1 hour on each, for example), or you can do it by session. Do something different each time you log on. This will help, but it only gets you so far. If you’re going to make a lot of gold, you need something even more effective.

Creativity is the solution. Find things that are interesting first, and profitable second. For instance, if you have a good group you can probably run heroics pretty easily. Collect the badges and you can purchase items to sell, like epic gems. Let’s say it takes you an hour to do an instance run that nets five badges. Every 15 badges you can purchase an epic gem from the vendor. How much you’ll get from this depends on your server and on how well you sell your gems, but it should come out to somewhere between 300 and 450 gold. At three hours per gem, that’s 100-150g per hour, which is pretty decent. Also remember you are getting other gear and cash as you go.

There are plenty of other examples like this, where you can combine an activity with making gold. Your earn rate may not be as good as straight up farming, but you’ll have a lot more fun doing it and that will enable you to get to your ultimate goal. Try to get out of the mindset of mindless grinding, and focus on how you can have fun while not giving up on your quest to farm for gold.
